Art at Marlfields
Miss Ratcliffe is our Art Champion.
At Marlfields, we have our very own art studio, where children can express their creativity and showcase their pieces of artwork. Our Marlfields Artists are imaginative and creative. They have an appreciation of a range of artists and their work. They are confident to use a range of materials to produce individual work, inspired by others, which expresses their own personality and creativity. If you would like to see how Art develops across the school, take a look at our Marlfields Progressive Art Curriculum below.
We teach Art in a consistent and carefully sequenced way across the school. Each lesson begins by identifying that it is an Art lesson, where we learn skills to help our creativity, and by recapping prior learning, helping children connect new knowledge to what they already know. This ensures learning is progressive and builds towards each lesson’s objective. Our lesson flow is followed in every class to provide clarity, structure and continuity.
Key Art vocabulary has been mapped out for every year group and each topic. This language is taught explicitly to support our budding artists in understanding new concepts with confidence. Important vocabulary from previous years is revisited whenever it is needed to access new learning, ensuring children develop a strong and secure art-specific vocabulary as they move through school.
