Remote Learning at Marlfields
At Marlfields, we know that being in school is the best place for children to learn, both for their education and their wellbeing. Government guidance explains that remote education should only be used in exceptional circumstances and never as a replacement for regular school attendance. It is considered only when a child is unable to attend school but is still well enough to learn, or in the rare event of a school closure.
When Remote Learning Will Be Offered
In line with national expectations, remote learning may be provided when:
A child is recovering from a short‑term illness or injury but is well enough to complete learning at home
A child is preparing for or recovering from a minor operation
A child has a short‑term absence linked to SEND or mental health needs, and remote learning forms part of a planned reintegration
School is unable to open safely due to exceptional circumstances
Remote learning will always be agreed between school and families, and reviewed regularly to ensure it supports the child’s return to school as soon as possible.
What Remote Learning Looks Like
If your child requires home learning activities, these will be provided by the class teacher. Learning will always be age‑appropriate, linked to the curriculum being taught in class and designed to help your child keep on track with their peers
Activities will be shared at the start of the school week, and teachers will maintain regular communication with families. Completed work should be returned weekly so teachers can provide feedback that supports your child’s progress.
Online Learning Tools
Children will also have access to online learning through:
TT Rockstars
Nessy
Each child has an individual login, which can be found in their planners. In addition, children are expected to continue with homework in line with their classmates:
Reading for 20 minutes, five times per week
Daily times‑table practice (around 10 minutes per day)
Our Commitment
Our aim is to ensure that any period of remote learning is high‑quality, meaningful and manageable for families. We will always consider your child’s age, needs and home circumstances, and we will work closely with you to support their learning and wellbeing.
