Design & Technology at Marlfields
Miss Barber is our Design and Technology Champion.
Marlfields Primary School is well-resourced and has many spaces for children to develop themselves as designers. We are fortunate enough to have our own kitchen workshops for children to practise their baking and cooking skills. We also have our own ‘Art and Design’ studio, where children have the space to work and be creative, while also showcasing their creations. Our Marlfields designers will show their creativity and innovation through design, and by exploration of the designed and made world in which we all live and work.

Marlfields Progressive DT Curriculum
We teach DT in a consistent and carefully sequenced way across the school. Each lesson begins by identifying that it is a DT lesson, where we learn to plan our projects, and by recapping prior learning, helping children connect new knowledge to what they already know. This ensures learning is progressive and builds towards each lesson’s objective. Our lesson flow is followed in every class to provide clarity, structure and continuity.
Marlfields DT Lesson Flow
Key vocabulary has been mapped out for every year group and each topic. This language is taught explicitly to support our budding designers in understanding new concepts with confidence. Important vocabulary from previous years is revisited whenever it is needed to access new learning, ensuring children develop a strong and secure DT-specific vocabulary as they move through school.
