Class 5

Welcome to Class 5

My name is Mrs Daley and I am the year 5 teacher. I have been a primary school teacher for 8 years. I am very much looking forward to getting to know you all this year and learning alongside you all.

I grew up in Stoke on Trent where I still live now, just a short drive from school. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family; my husband is a police officer and I have two young children, aged 4 and 1, as well as a black Labrador called Spencer. We love walking our dog, having days out and going on holidays.

What to expect in year 5

Reading

Reading is not just important for the development of your child in English lessons but across all subject areas. We expect every child to read to an adult at home at least 3 times a week, however, daily reading would be even better. Once your child has read to you, please record the page numbers and initial in their planners. Planners will be checked weekly.

Homework

English and Maths homework will be set on a Friday, to be completed by the following Wednesday. Tasks will be set online and you should have your child’s usernames and passwords, any problems please ask. The children should also be practicing their times tables daily to ensure they are secure all the way up to 12 x 12. Spellings will be given out with the homework on a Friday ready for the following Monday, they will be practiced in school also; they will be tested on a Friday each week.

Planners

Your child’s planner is a way of communication between home and school. You are welcome to write any notes for me in there, but please remind your child to share it with me. You may also find messages from myself as well as useful websites, usernames and passwords.

School Blog

Please keep an eye out for pictures of our learning on the school blog.
