The Friends of Marlfields runs mainly as a fund-raising organisation and supports the school by raising money in a number of practical ways to improve the facilities for the children. We invite all parents, relatives and friends of families to be members and to join in with our planning and hosting of events during the year.

Please keep your eye on the weekly newsletters which give dates of our next meeting to which we hope you will attend.

Please contact the FOM Chair – Mrs Horton for more information. Details are available from the school office on 01260 633120.

In February a group of us raised money supported by the school to take part in the Congleton Rotary Swimathon.  We raised over £380 for local causes and half of this will go to the charity of our choice which is ‘Therapy Dogs UK’.  Congratulations to our team below.

We held our annual McMillian Coffee Morning 2019 and we managed to raise a staggering £550 in just under two hours.  Thanks go to all those, and you know who they are for the incredible donations, working hard on the day as this was the main reason we did so well.  At this event we also opened our new water feature which is dedicated to Mr Davenport.

CELEBRATIONS, CELEBRATIONS!

The Community Education Awards help to recognise the valuable work that is undertaken in schools across the UK especially those that deal with a range of vitally important social issues.
The awards are an annual celebration of schools efforts to help children and young people become positive community members. The awards are designed to highlight and reward the most effective projects being delivered in schools and within their local community.
Marlfields Academy have been successful in winning a Community Education Award for their………..
‘Bearmania’ project.
For more information visit www.beartown.org where there is full details of Bearmania and its success.

For the London 2012 Olympics, Congleton wanted to create a logo for the town. A competition ran to design the logo and this was won by Marlfields. It is still used by the Town Council to promote community events.

WE DID IT!!

We won the ‘School Bake Off’ competition held by Grain Chain and we met Paul Hollywood, who we baked with.

  • Sports competitions organised by the CeCP allow all children to participate at all levels.
  • Community events are organised that allow the children to develop British Values and showcase their skills to the local community.

Marlfields Primary Academy is a Strategic Partner of ‘The Aspirer Teaching School’

The Aspirer Teaching School is a collaboration between 21 schools, both Primary and Secondary, led by Ash Grove Academy. Our ethos is simply to improve outcomes for all young people, especially those from more challenging circumstances.

At Marlfields we are currently involved in a number of research projects with the teaching school which is benefiting children and staff these being:

  • IPEEL – improving children’s writing skills.
  • Investigating the effectiveness of a phonics intervention (Pulling it Together) in Year 1 – This trial will run for 6 weeks with a 20-30 minute session delivered every day for the target group (4 children) and an additional control group (4 children). The session will be delivered by a TA. Results are shown in this document: PIT Final
  • Investigating the effectiveness of Talk Boost (ICAN) in Reception. Talk Boost is an evidence based Speech, Language and Communication Needs intervention developed by ICAN. It targets children aged 4-7 years with delayed language. This trial (10 weeks) will develop Talk Boost to a group of 4 children to measure its effectiveness in comparison with a small guided talk group.

Any school involved will receive the official ICAN Talk Boost training to be able to run the intervention.
