Class 4

Welcome to Class 4

My name is Miss Booth and I am the year 4 teacher. I have been a primary school teacher for 13 years but have also taught dance and performing arts to children from the age of 3 to 18. I have a passion for music and can play the piano and guitar. I am very much looking forward to learning a new instrument this year alongside my class.

I come from a small seaside town in Wales and speak Welsh fluently. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, water-sports and listening to music.

What to expect in year 4

Reading is not just important for the development of your child in English lessons but across all subject areas. We expect every child to read to an adult at home at least 3 times a week, however, daily reading would be even better. Once your child has read to you, please record the page numbers and initial in their planners. Planners will be checked weekly.

English and Maths homework will be set on a Friday, to be completed by the following Wednesday. Some of the tasks will be set online and you will find their usernames and passwords in their planners. The children should also be practicing their times tables daily. By the end of year 4 the children are expected to know all of the tables up to 12 x 12. Spellings will be written into the planner on Monday and tested on Friday which should be practiced at home as well as at school.

Your child’s planner is a way of communication between home and school. Your are welcome to write any notes for me in their, but please remind your child to share it with me. You may also find messages from myself as well as useful websites, usernames and passwords. Reminders and homework will also be noted in the planner. Please sign the planner each week to acknowledge that it has been checked.

You may choose whether your child brings a healthy playtime snack from home or purchase one from school. If you would like your child to have a school snack, please send their money in a clearly named envelope on Monday morning.

The children will continue with their swimming lessons this year. Their lessons will take place at the leisure center on  a Thursday morning. Please ensure that they have a swimming costume / trunks (no long shorts) and a towel. As the children walk to the leisure center, please ensure that they are wearing a suitable coat, especially in the colder months when they may also need a hat, scarf and gloves.

The children will also need to have both an indoor and outdoor P.E kit available in school at all times as they will be taking part in another sporting activity during the week.
